Standpipe Operations

 Location:  South Montgomery Co. FD


Class Length:  4 hours 


This hands-on training (HOT) program introduces and examines the essential skills required for firefighter proficiency during a standpipe operation.


The course covers a broad scope of effective deployment models, alternative hose stretches, improvised standpipe options, and various hose and attack bundle configurations to address the challenges of a standpipe operation. 


Students will develop practical, effective methods that enhance their capabilities required for a standpipe operation.

James “Jimmy” Davis is a Captain and 31-year Chicago (IL) Fire Department veteran assigned to Engine Co. 43 serving Logan Square. 


He instructs and lectures nationally and internationally on many subjects relating to mid-to-high-rise firefighting strategy and tactics. 


He is a (FSRI-UL) technical panel member for the Study of Fire Dynamics 

James “Jimmy” Davis is a Captain and 31-year Chicago (IL) Fire Department veteran assigned to Engine Co. 43 serving Logan Square. 


He instructs and lectures nationally and internationally on many subjects relating to mid-to-high-rise firefighting strategy and tactics. 


He is a (FSRI-UL) technical panel member for the Study of Fire Dynamics and Firefighting Tactics in Multi-Story Residential Structures. 


He has authored many trade articles and collaborated on technical projects to identify best practice applications for tall buildings

 Brent Brooks is currently an Acting District Chief with 30 years of service.


Brent’s career in firefighting began at Pearson International Airport and with Bombardier Aerospace Crash Fire Rescue teams. Brent is a proud retired member of the Armed Forces reserves.


Brent's assignment to the High Rise Unit has enabled him to enhance High-Rise

 Brent Brooks is currently an Acting District Chief with 30 years of service.


Brent’s career in firefighting began at Pearson International Airport and with Bombardier Aerospace Crash Fire Rescue teams. Brent is a proud retired member of the Armed Forces reserves.


Brent's assignment to the High Rise Unit has enabled him to enhance High-Rise Operations through innovative research and development, improve Incident Management Systems, and provide operational training.


He has toured 36 of the world's 118 tallest buildings. 


Brent advocates best practices in the fire service and is an author who specializes in high-rise firefighting.


He has served on various committees and has spoken at national and international events in Great Britain, Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Chile and the USA. 


He is an FDIC advisor and a panellist on Fire Engineering’s Hump Day Hang Out. He also sits on the Canadian chapter of The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) board and is a member of the Chicago-based Council of Tall Buildings. Additionally, he represents Canada as a T70 Tall Building Safety Committee member based in London, England.

Brent's Community of Practice has a wide reach.


He has personally donated his time to over 100 fire departments internationally. He aims to educate the next generation of firefighters on best practices for occupant survival and firefighter safety in High-Rise firefighting.
